Household cable, also known as light cable or domestic cable, refers to thin insulated copper cable commonly used in residential electrical installations. This includes twin and earth cable, lighting cable, flex, and other thin cables typically ranging from 1mm² to 6mm².

TWIN & EARTH CABLE
Most common household cable. Standard twin and earth from domestic installations. 1mm², 1.5mm², 2.5mm², 4mm², 6mm² sizes. White/grey PVC sheathing.
LIGHTING CABLE
Thin lighting circuit cable. 1mm² and 1.5mm² twin and earth. Very thin conductors, thick insulation. Common from lighting installations.
FLEX & EXTENSION LEADS
Flexible cable and extension leads. 3-core flex from appliances, tool flex, extension cables. White, black, and orange flex acceptable.
RING MAIN CABLE
2.5mm² socket circuit cable. Most common size from power sockets. Standard domestic ring main twin and earth. Powers 13A sockets.
COOKER & SHOWER CABLE
4mm² and 6mm² cable for cookers, showers, immersions. Thicker than standard household but still light grade cable. Higher recovery than 1-2.5mm².
MIXED HOUSEHOLD CABLE
Various thin cables together. Assorted domestic cable from clearances and renovations. Accumulated electrician offcuts. All light grade acceptable.
Household Cable Pricing
Household cable value depends on copper recovery, cable thickness, and market conditions.
COPPER RECOVERY
Household cable has 40-55% copper recovery. Lower than high grade (60-75%+) due to thin conductors and thick insulation. Recovery determines grading and pricing.
CABLE THICKNESS
1mm² to 6mm² qualifies as household/light cable. Thin conductors mean less copper per kilogram. Thicker cable (10mm²+) grades as high grade with premium pricing.
CABLE TYPE
Twin & earth, flex, and lighting cable all household grade. 6mm² cable better than 1mm² but still light grade pricing. Mixed household types acceptable together.
MARKET CONDITIONS
Copper prices fluctuate with London Metal Exchange. Household cable receives standard cable pricing reflecting lower copper recovery versus high grade.
